Job Description & Person Specification:

The Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art is an educational charity committed to promoting original, world-class research into the history of British art and architecture of all periods. 

The Centre (which is a member of the Association of Research Institutes in Art History - ARIAH) has two complementary purposes: to contribute to the understanding of British art and architecture and to act as a research centre for scholars working in this field. We collaborate closely with the Yale Center for British Art, and we are part of Yale University. 

This newly created role will support the Paul Mellon Centre’s initiatives by producing and maintaining digital resources for the study of British art and architecture. The post holder will play a key role in helping to raise the profile and awareness of the organisation, with particular responsibility for co- ordinating the production and management of digital content in a variety of media. 

Reporting to the Centre’s Digital Manager, you will work as part of a small team on the design and maintenance of the Centre’s online presence in order to raise the impact and profile of our activities. Key responsibilities will include day-to- day management of the Centre’s content management (CMS) and digital asset management systems (DAMS), as well as quality control of the work of external developers. The role also covers the identification and troubleshooting of user experience issues and training of staff in the use of the CMS. The post holder will produce thorough documentation of their processes and will work towards establishing policies to improve efficiency, consistency, and accessibility. 

It is essential that you have experience of using data management systems (such as a web content management systems or collections information systems) and a meticulous attention to detail. You should also have good visual literacy and an understanding of the principles of branding. Highly computer literate, you have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. 

It would be helpful to have a keen interest in the gallery, library, archive and museum sector. 

Experience of producing multimedia digital content such as video would be preferable.

Salary will be in the range £28,000 to £30,000 per annum, depending on experience. 

The post is full time and the hours of work are 35 per week.
