Job Description & Person Specification:

An exciting unique opportunity has arrived to work in the arts in Harlow.

We are looking to recruit a part time Artistic Co-ordinator to join a small friendly team of trustees, staff and volunteers who deliver a variety of cultural projects, contemporary exhibitions and public art commissions in Harlow.

Summary of role 

This position is busy, interesting and fundamental to the smooth workings of Harlow Art Trust. It does require unique delivery of both customer facing and sound administrative skills. It will suit an individual with a keen interest in public and contemporary art with a driving ambition to be part of the longer-term plan for culture in Harlow.

Responsible to:

Director, Harlow Art Trust and deputise in their absence.

Duties and responsibilities include:  

Supporting the Director with the temporary exhibition programme, liaising with artists, developing client databases, creating forms, contracts and procedures for use within the Gallery.

General administration, including organising and recording Trust and Gallery meetings, dealing with day-to-day email, social media and telephone enquiries relating to the collection. 

Supporting the management of the collection of sculptures across the town: overseeing loans, sculpture moves, and condition reporting processes, keep up to date files for the hard copy archive based in the Gallery.

Supporting promotion of Harlow Sculpture Town and the Gallery: updating websites, APPS, distributing maps, driving social media, crucially becoming a champion of the Art Trust and their aims.  

Liaise with the volunteers and Friends of Harlow Sculpture and the Gibberd Gallery (FoHSGG) by providing updates for the Friends meetings and maintaining dialogue with the Friends.   

To ensure insurance, legal, health and safety obligations are adhered to and risk management is observed and communicated.

Remain customer focused and recognise and respect the diverse nature of the community, with an emphasis on inclusion and access.

Help drive an open culture of continuous improvement and innovation. 

15 hours per week @ 11.50 Per Hour. 

Freelance position based in the Gibberd Gallery,  flexible with some evening and occasional Saturdays.

Training will be given.
