Job Description & Person Specification:

Can you make sure our collections remain conserved to inspire futures?

Across Science Museum Group, we are passionate about the unique objects and exhibitions in our care, with our Conservation teams helping to deliver our group vision of creating a more accessible and sustainable collection.

To ensure we look after and continue engaging the public with our collections interactively, we are looking for a Collections Care Conservator to join our team at the National Railway Museum in Shildon (2 days per week) and York (1 day per week) on a permanent basis. In this role, you will work across both our National Railway Museum's and be responsible for all aspects of collections care and preventive action, protecting our world-class collections allowing us to continue sharing authentic stories which ignite curiosity in our diverse audiences.

You will also build strong relationships, advising on interventive conservation to support gallery development, temporary exhibitions and loans.

As our dedicated Collections Care Conservator, you will have a good level of practical conservation experience or knowledge from specialist qualifications, evidence of practical skills with environmental monitoring and a working knowledge of conservational health and safety.

You will also be passionate about our Museum's objects, happy to share best practice and support colleagues with enquiries or cross-functional support.
